Our Story
After eleven years operating as B-Alternative, our vision remains the same: that local action can ripple outward to create profound cultural and environmental change.
Our rebrand to Ripple Projects is a natural evolution, representing a clarity of purpose and the beginning of a new chapter for the organisation.
Our journey began in 2015, evolving in response to a world grappling with environmental destruction and an escalating waste and plastics crisis. We knew then, as we know now, that plastic poses one of the greatest dangers to marine ecosystems which supports all life on earth. Since then, our work has evolved in directions we never could have imagined - led always by curiosity and an instinct for place-based, regenerative waste-reduction solutions.
From providing zero-waste products to facilitating waste education across schools and councils, designing hands-on waste audits and innovating large-scale reuse systems, we’ve always been at the forefront of pioneering circular and regenerative projects.
Our services have evolved, but our purpose has remained constant: to challenge cultures of waste by creating practical, place-based solutions.
Today, Ripple Projects brings together a decade of experience in reuse systems, waste education, resource recovery, circularity, community engagement and regeneration. Our team are passionate environmental advocates and waste specialists, but we’re also artists, writers, educators, storytellers, designers and dreamers. We work across festivals, public spaces, businesses and local communities, delivering tailored programs for projects of any scale.
Believing in regenerative business means we do most things differently. Our systems and services dwell in the circular economy, but our organisation itself also strives for a circular existence; our services fuel our passion for regeneration, which fuels our ultimate goal: obsolescence, in a future culture where reuse is the norm.
Meet Our Dedicated Core Team
Jason Rahilly
Founder & Director
Jason is the founder and director of Ripple Projects, guiding its strategic direction, partnerships, and environmental consulting. With over 15 years as a licensed builder and project manager, he saw the environmental toll of conventional practice, and now combines his hands-on expertise with systems thinking to tackle waste.
He’s also co-director of Gypco, a sustainability-focused building company, and enjoys cricket, surfing, animals, and the outdoors with his family.
Gretel Tobin
General Manager
Gretel brings a background of environmental science, outdoor education and visual art to shape Ripple Project’s creative direction and drive our waste reduction & education initiatives.
With a system's focussed perspective and a passion for visual communication, Gretel hopes to reimagine communities that are founded in principles of reciprocity - and are therefore more resilient to the impacts of climate change. Outside of Ripple Projects, you'll find Gretel bike-riding, gardening and listening to local live music!
Joshua Davies
Festival & Events Manager
Joshua manages Ripple Project’s Festival and Events services, helping bring reusable and waste-minimising systems to life on event sites, and engage with event audiences in circular thinking.
He values reflecting on how humans occupy space and interact with our neighbours, and our role. Joshua’s creative and community practice has grown through artistic and sustainability-focused engagement at community events. Joshua hopes to keep learning and sharing about human connection and the fabric of nature that we are a part of.
Miles Potter
Events Coordinator
Miles is our Festivals and Events Coordinator, managing the pre-event administration and on-site operations that bring our services to life.
Miles channels his creative passion into transforming camping materials left behind at festivals into different forms. He is an avid experimenter who often spends free hours tinkering or fixing things at his desk.
Miles is heavily involved in the Food Rescue Network at QVM. He loves providing fresh produce to those who need it, and enjoys challenging Australia's approach to food consumption.
Abby Strangward
Storytelling Lead
Abby sees storytelling as a vital form of cultural sense-making and a pathway to deepening connection between people and place. She guides communications at Ripple Projects and aims to dream up new ways to spark dialogue and foster belonging.
More often than not, you’ll find her with a good book in one hand and a mug of coffee in the other.
Jen James
Circularity and Resources Manager
Jen has a deep connection to nature and protecting our beautiful oceans, which guides her values and work each day. She loves exploring our local bay and beyond through scuba diving and is passionate about creating meaningful environmental impact through practical solutions that support marine restoration.
Isabelle Pearl Love-Dack
Shuck Don’t Chuck Ambassador
Lachie Pavlovic
Circularity Lead
Lachie is a naturally curious person, a lover of books, travel, and nature. He values connection to place and community, using these as guiding values in daily life.
He believes there is a disconnection between contemporary society and the environmental impact spurring the biodiversity and climate crisis. This is what inspired him to undertake an MA in Sustainability and apply it in the Circular Economy.
Terry Clapham
Shuck Don’t Chuck Truck Driver
If you are one of our hospitality partners you'll recognise Terry, our Shuck Don't Chuck Truck Driver!
When Terry isn’t working with Shuck Don't Chuck, he’s usually on the water sailing in Corio Bay. He also spends a day each week with the Making Waves Foundation, teaching people with lived experience of disability how to sail!
Outside of work and his hobbies, Terry stays busy with his family and his two-year-old grandson.
Huw Provis
Shuck Don’t Chuck Truck Driver
For the past few months Terry and I have been sharing the Shuck Don’t Chuck driving duties.
We met as volunteers at the Making Waves Foundation where I currently run their 52 foot sailing boat and volunteer 3 days a week supporting their programs.
I love the maritime link of Shuck Don’t Chuck and the water.
